Global News 27 May

''Go'' is a notoriously complex game with almost infinitive numbers of possible moves. Chinese player Ke Jie has lost two games to Google's DeepMind AlphaGo artificial intelligence.
The 19-year-old champion said he was reduced to tears, as he believed he could never be beaten by a machine. What's more, the AlphaGo has developed so much that it will probably be able to find medical cures or other major solutions which are for this moment impossible for people to create.

It's definitely an impressive progress. I'm happy to hear about achievements which will actually have an impact in the world. I hope it will make a difference for humans wealth and not the opposite. Probably none of us wants to see a scenario taken straight from a sci-fi movie.

words:
1. defeat = a victory over someone in a battle (here over the machine)
After three punishing defeats, he admitted he was wrong.
2. notoriously = word used to emphasize a quality or fact that is well known
Go is a notoriously complex game.
3. to master sth = to be an adept in sth
It was impossible for a computer to master the human intuition and strategy needed for a victory.

Global News 20th May

One engineering school in Japan had 93% graduates that fielded 2600 job offers. That is because of the huge labour shortage in that country. Japan has an ageing economy, in results, they lose about 6% of their workforce every decade.  What's more, the government doesn't want to hire any foreign workers. Only people from nearest countries like China or the Philippines can enter some training programs. Unfortunately, they're not treated very well.  Specialist says Japan will have a serious economic problem in the future if they don't change their immigrant's policy.

At first I thought that Japan must have a brilliant education system but in reality there are simply to many workplaces to fill. I think, it's a problem that must be solved as soon as it's possible. I do understand that the government want to create a strong country without immigrants but is it possible in their economic situation? Japan should at least try to let other people into their country, I don't think Chinese and Japanese culture is as different as for example, Polish and Arabic.

words:
1. stagnation = no movement, no progress
If the economy starts to stagnate again, the government will be pushed to change their policy.
2. remarkable = impressive, significant
Japan has just released some remarkable statistics.
3. demand = I have no idea what synonym fits here :(
Why Japan had such a high demand for university graduates?

Global News 11th of May

Five gay rights activists were detained in Russia for delivering a petition which referred to alleged gay torture in Chechnya. Last week president Putin backed an inquiry into reported crackdown in the caucasian region. Even though homosexuality was decriminalised in 1993 the concern of homophobia in Russia remains high. It is because of strict laws like for example, gay people are not allowed to hold their hands in public. But also the general opinion that comes from authorities, in Russia as well as in Chechnya is the reason for such dramatic circumstances.
Honestly, I'm quite not surprised by the fact that in Caucasian region people are ashamed or feel offended by homosexuals even in the 21st century. Their mindset, culture and philosophy are completely different from western. I think it might come from religion as well.
This is a very thorny subject but I believe every single human being deserves to be happy as long as is not hurting anyone else. No one should be tortured or persecuted for their orientation.

1.inquiry = request for truth, information; investigation
2.to crack down = stłumić (?)
President Putin backed an inquiry into reported crackdown.
3.sinister = bad, dramatic, serious
What is happening in Chechnya is much more sinister than in Russia.

Is Mr Keating a good teacher?

Mr Keating's way of teaching is rather unusual, unique. He's engaging students in lessons so they have an opportunity not only to learn but also enjoy the classes or at least feel like interested in discussed topics. What's more, he's shortening the distance between himself and boys, he's building a relationship as they were all good friends but with a dose of respect. He's a ''Captain'' after all.   In my opinion, he deserves a trophy. He's helping boys spread their wings and see the world from an utterly new perspective. Without him, Neil would never think of becoming an actor or even undermine his father's words.  I believe the teacher is not a revolutionist, but a guide.
On the other hand, the lecturer sees the world as an artist, as a poet, he idealises the reality in which everyone is doing what they love, which we know that is impossible to exist. That might be dangerous for students in the future though.

Global News 21 April

The beautiful city of Rome is unfortunately not as stunning as it used to be, all because of the pollution. The disturbing amount of rubbish is now a serious problem that affects the inhabitants in a dangerous way, they appear to have more health issues, sicknesses etc.  But in fact, there is a solution. Italy is transporting the trash by trains to Austria where it will be sorted and burned at very high temperatures, producing steam which will be later converted into a power.

Honestly, this situation is not a surprise for me, the Earth pollution is a general, global problem. Italy is just one of the many countries that should make a move towards this issue. We, people, have this unpleasant habit of ''waiting until the last minute'' and then making actions. This manner will eventually lead us to a great disaster.

1. outrageous = absolutely horrible
I think it's otrageous, I think the city is being insulted.
2. disposed of = unloaded, taken off
Over 70k tonnes of roman rubbish will be disposed of this year.
3. capacity = ability to deal with sth (?) /in this topic's meaning
The Austrians don't have the capacity to deal with all the Rome's waste.

Sorry for posting it so late!
