China after many years has finally closed down 12 ivory shops and 55 factories in order to save elephants. What's crucial is the fact that China's major trade partner - Africa will no longer have a profit. In addition, Africa's authorities hope for a decrease of poaching. This is a big step not only for Asian country but also for the international illegal trades because now the risk of getting caught is higher.
As I believe in an idealistic world, the decision of Chinese government is brilliant in my opinion. On the other hand, I'm afraid that it won't stop African gangs from poaching. They'll probably find other countries that might be interested in gaining extra money. But I'm happy for elephants, though. Finally, I hope that other lands like for example India or Arabic regions will ban ivory trades for good.

It was a really bold decision that was taken by the Chinese government back in December to close domestic markets.
2. harvested = accumulated, collected 3. smuggled out = taken out of somewhere illegally
Today up to 70% of the nearly(<<I'm not sure if this is the right word) harvested tusks smuggled out of the Africa.
